For August 27 & 28 New Student Move-In

Twin Cities Road Construction

Numerous road projects may impede your travel to campus. It is recommended that you look at the MNDOT website. Please consider using alternate routes such as I35W southbound or Highway 280 instead of I-94 through downtown Minneapolis.

Arrival Time

We ask that you please arrive within 30 minutes of your move-in time. This will help with traffic both inside and outside your hall. Your move-in time is listed on your Move-In Guide.

Move-In Volunteers

Move-In Volunteers are available to help unload vehicles, monitor personal belongings during check-in, and move items from the specified unloading zones to residence hall rooms. On August 27, volunteers are available at the three Superblock halls, Comstock, Yudof, Sanford, Wilkins, 17th Ave, Middlebrook, and Bailey from 1:00 - 8:30 PM. On August 28, volunteers are available at all residence halls from 9:00 AM to 8:30 PM. Bailey Hall assisted move-in is completed by 3:30 PM on Tuesday, August 28. 17th Ave does not have assigned/assisted Move-In from 3:30 - 6:00 PM.

Unloading & Parking

One person must stay with your vehicle at all times. Move-In Volunteers will assist with monitoring personal belongings while you get your keys in the lobby of your residence hall. The driver should proceed to the long-term parking area (you will receive this information in an email and at move-in) as soon as your items are unloaded. Information about long-term parking will be provided during move-in. Moving carts will be available on a first come, first served basis to help transport your belongings.

Note: Due to road construction in and around the Minneapolis/St. Paul area, directions to each building (found below) will be updated with the most up-to-date route information no later than August 20. Students will be emailed a personalized email with directions to their building on August 20.

If you wish to consider an alternative to the unloading plan we have outlined, here are important points to keep in mind.

  • Street parking and meters around the SuperBlock are heavily used. If you choose to park at a meter, please be certain that your vehicle fully fits into the parking space and does not intrude into the traffic lane.
  • You must pay to park at meters in this location.
  • There are limited meters where you may choose to pay to park near the SuperBlock.
  • UMPD traffic control will be present to assist in keeping traffic moving.
  • Parking contract holders have reserved spaces in lot C78, C5, and C6. These spaces are off-limits for unloading.
  • No unloading is permitted along Harvard Street.
  • Parking or stopping on grass or vacant lots near the SuperBlock is not permitted.
  • The Fairview Hospital Ramp is reserved for hospital and clinic visitors. The University does not have any reciprocal parking privileges.

Construction

Currently, 4th St. SE, the road that runs directly behind University Village Apartments, is undergoing significant construction. This project is expected to be completed by the end of construction season in October.

4th St. is and will continue to be open to local traffic, which includes residents of University Village. You will be able to access our parking garage as normal. This project will not impact travel to and from University Village, but it does mean there is less free, unrestricted street parking in the area. For move-in, residents are able to check-out 1-hour parking passes for the garage. Monthly parking for the term of your contract is available for purchase from Great Lake Management, located in their offices on the west side of the building.

Note:  August 31 is a home Gopher Football game, so it is highly recommended to NOT attempt to move into University Village that day.
