Taking Bailey Hall offline for the 2026-27 academic year is part of a broader, long-term initiative to reinvigorate and invest in the St. Paul campus. Closing the facility allows the University to begin an earlier implementation of the revitalization of housing for the St. Paul Campus to better meet the modern needs of our students and campus community.

By optimizing capacity across active residence halls and fulfilling all housing guarantees, Housing & Residential Life is capitalizing on a timely opportunity to take Bailey Hall offline. 

Bailey Hall is being closed for the 2026-27 academic year. Future plans for the space are being evaluated as part of the St. Paul campus revitalization strategic plan. This plan includes a new St. Paul Campus Center, a vibrant hub supporting student success with learning and support spaces that improve student belonging, well-being and progress toward degree completion.

Don't worry! Our team is working to place you in another vibrant, welcoming residence hall community on campus. Your new housing assignment will be based on your previously submitted housing preferences.

Official housing assignments, building placements and roommate details for the upcoming academic year will be sent out via email by July 31.

The University is committed to ensuring your academic routine is uninterrupted. Parking & Transportation services will continue to provide dedicated campus shuttle transportation between the East Bank, West Bank and St. Paul for classes, labs and activities. Campus buses are free and accessible — view schedules online.

Absolutely not. Bailey’s specific Living Learning Communities are being relocated together to alternative residence halls so residents can still live alongside their peers and mentors.

Yes. If you have a confirmed roommate request in your housing application, our placement team will keep your roommate pairing intact when assigning you to your new building.

Because Bailey Hall is closing completely for the academic year, the Bailey Dining Hall will not be operational. Students visiting or taking classes on the St. Paul campus will still have access to dining and food options at the St. Paul Student Center. The Grab n Go option is a program that students always have access to if their schedule prohibits them from being near a dining hall during a meal period.

Housing & Residential Life is able to guarantee housing for all first-year students who have requested a residence hall or apartment community. If a student is seeking a housing contract for the academic year,  we still have some space available.

No. The University is committed to no one being laid off through this process.  All affected team members are being thoughtfully reassigned to other locations in their same job classification and responsibilities.
