Information Desk

Every residence hall and apartment building has an information desk that is staffed 24 hours a day. This is where you will go to ask questions and rent items including but not limited to games, cooking and cleaning supplies.

In addition to being available to answer questions and check items out, the students and full-time staff members who work at these desks will report any emergencies to the University of Minnesota Police Department.

Packages

All packages are distributed through your building's information desk. You will receive an email notification from your hall whenever a package is delivered to your building.

To check for any packages awaiting pickup, log in to the Housing Portal.

Information desks will only accept deliveries by the following services:

  • U.S. Mail or any parcel delivery (e.g. FedEx, UPS) addressed to the student or occupant of the room.

  • Campus mail addressed to the student or occupant of the room.

  • Advertisements/mail from or approved by Housing & Residential Life

Mail

Mail is processed by the information desk staff daily while classes are in session.

Lost Keys

Residents are responsible for the use and control of their room and apartment keys. Keep your room/apartment door locked at all times. Always carry your keys and U Card for access into your building.

Lost keys must be reported to your Information Desk immediately. If you lose your keys, you will be charged a fee to replace the cores and keys assigned to you and your room/apartment spaces. The information desk will provide this information to you when you report your lost keys.

Temporary Keys and Access

Staff at the information desk can help if you become locked out of your room or if you misplace your UCard. Staff can issue a temporary access card for building access that you can use for a couple of days until you can visit the UCard office for a replacement. The information desk can also issue you a temporary room key if your roommate accidentally locks you out. All residents are permitted to check out two free temporary keys per school year. Any additional temporary keys checked out will result in a $35 charge to your student account.

Resources

The information desk has several resource items that you can check out for short term rentals. Available items vary slightly per building, but all information desks will have the following:

  • Vacuums
  • Cooking Equipment (pots, pans, baking sheets, cutting boards, etc)
  • Music room, meditation room, and study room keys
  • Gopher Bikes
