What you need to know
Your current room may or may not be reserved for incoming first-year students, Living Learning Communities, or other University programs. You will be notified via email if you are in a space that is eligible to retain for the next academic year.
Review the accordions below for details on when and how to sign-up for your space.
November 2025
The application opens for current residents interested in campus housing for the 2026-27 academic year. Students currently studying abroad who lived on campus during the fall 2025 semester are also eligible to apply for housing. Completing the application will enter you into the lottery along with current residents who are interested in returning to on-campus housing in 2026-27, and allows you to search for roommates. Completing an application does not automatically place you in a room or apartment; that is an action you or a member of your roommate group will take at a later step. You have until Tuesday, February 17 at 11:59 p.m. to complete the application and add a student to your roommate group.
Pro tip! More people will complete applications over time so check back for new roommate matches.
February 9, 2026
All students with a housing or dining accommodation facilitated by the Disability Resource Center must submit their application by Monday, February 9, at 11:59 p.m.
Keeler residents who intend to stay through the summer term (May 31-August 15) may retain their current space. You must select your current space on your application to retain your current space no later than 11:59 p.m. on Monday, February 9, 2026. Retaining your space for fall will automatically assign you into Keeler for the summer housing contract. Summer housing fee information can be found on our Housing & Residential Life website. If you cancel your summer contract, your academic year contract will also be canceled.
If you fill out the application and do not choose to retain your current space, you will be entered into the lottery. The lottery is used to create a priority order for selecting another space.
If your current roommates also want to return, each resident must complete their own application. They must complete the application and retain their space by Monday, February 9, at 11:59 p.m. Keeler residents will receive an email with more instructions about this process after classes resume in January. If Keeler residents complete the application but do not retain their space (including current Keeler residents who do not plan to stay through summer), they will be entered into the lottery.
February 17, 2026
The application is due by February 17 at 11:59 p.m. to be entered into the lottery. Roommate groups must also be finalized by this date.
February 19, 2026
All residents who submitted an application will receive an email with additional room sign-up information, including a date and time at which their room selection process can begin.
If you are a member of a roommate group finalized prior to February 17, you will be assigned the same lottery number.
February 24 - 27, 2026
Students who filled out the application will be able to access the system, according to their lottery information, to choose their new space for 2026-27. Be sure to research room types and costs before selecting your new space. Residents interested in Gender Open Housing or a Living Learning Community, including our second year experiences, will select their LLC space at this time.
If you are part of a Roommate Group, only one person should log in to make your selection.
Waitlist
Students who are not able to select their desired space will have the opportunity to join a waitlist at the end of the room selection process. Students with an incomplete application by February 18 will be able to join the waitlist by completing an application after February 28.
Late February/Early March
You must pay the $200 Housing Guarantee Fee within seven (7) days of selecting your space to be guaranteed housing. If you do not, your selected space will be released to other students and your 2026-27 application will be cancelled.
Note: The $200 Housing Guarantee Payment is refundable during the first six (6) days of the seven (7) day payment period. If the payment is submitted on the seventh day of the payment period, there is no refund available.

Second-Year LLCs
LLCs Open to All
What is a Living Learning Community (LLC)?
LLCs bring students together to live in a dedicated area of a building. Take advantage of this unique and free housing option to expand your college experience through exploration and collaboration.
Talk with friends and potential roommates about your plans ahead of time and create a Roommate Group. Any student can create the Roommate Group and send roommate invitations (be sure to accept your invitations!). The Roommate Group should choose one person to select a space at your assigned lottery time. Room Sign-Up may be done in groups of two.
Pro tip! If you are a member of a Roommate Group, you will be assigned a date and time to sign up for housing based on the lowest lottery number among the group members.
Roommate Search
The Roommate Search tool assists students who have not selected a roommate for next year. Roommate Search asks students to answer several questions about themselves and their roommate preferences. The tool then identifies matches allowing you to connect and discuss being roommates. Roommate search will be available on the Housing Portal beginning in January.
Pro tip! More residents will be added over time, so check back often for new matches.
Gender Open Housing
Some Gender Open spaces will be available to select during Room Sign-Up.
Review current rates by building online. Updated information will be posted here as it becomes available. The anticipated rate increase for next academic year is 4-6%.
General Contract Periods
- Keeler and Yudof: August–May (Optional summer contracts available)
- Residence Halls: September–December & January–May
A $200 Housing Guarantee is required to confirm your Room Sign-Up selection. Failure to submit the payment guarantee by the due date will result in a forfeiture of the space. Students may submit a payment extension request on their application.

Frequently Asked Questions
You may select your room within your 2026-27 Housing Application on the Housing Portal. When you are eligible to select your room, the lottery time information page will disappear and direct you to make your selection.
Room types available vary by building, and change quickly during the Room Sign-Up process. You will be able to view available rooms during your lottery time. Because of the dynamic nature of the process, we recommend having several alternative plans identified with your roommates, in addition to your first pick.
Room Sign-Up is a self-selection process, so a group of two will see all available spaces that would accommodate at least two people. When selecting a room, you will be able to see who else is already in that room. If you are the first into the room, you will be able to see who joined you in the room after the lottery has closed. Information about your assignment is always up to date on the home page of the Portal.
These are our most popular room types, so these are typically selected early in the process. Students with later lottery numbers should not plan on a lot of availability for these room types.
If you are abroad in Fall 2025 and plan to live with us this spring, you will gain access to the Room Sign-Up process after you arrive to campus.
If you are living with us in Fall 2025 and are studying abroad in Spring 2026 during Room Sign-Up, you will also be given access to select a room for 2026-27. Contact us if you experience issues accessing the process.
If you are studying abroad in Fall 2026, you should complete the Academic Year housing application for spring when it becomes available (usually in October).
If you are studying abroad in Spring 2027, you should complete Room Sign-Up as normal and will complete a contract release for Spring 2027. Study abroad is an approved reason to cancel your contract.
Roommates of people studying abroad should plan to have someone re-assigned to the space.
Yes, you can return to on-campus housing in the Fall of 2026 even if you’re studying abroad in the Spring of 2026.
If you are living with us in Fall 2025 and are studying abroad in Spring 2026 during Room Sign-Up, you will also be given access to select a room for 2026-27. Contact us if you experience issues accessing the process.
Yes. You can change your roommate group until you select a room. However:
- only groups that are formed as of February 17 at 11:59 will be assigned the same lottery number across the group.
- the group you’re in when your lottery time arrives will determine the size of spaces you see. If you’re not in a roommate group, you will see spaces that accommodate at least one person. If you’re in a roommate pair, you will see only spaces that accommodate at least two people.
We do not recommend making roommate group changes after lottery times have begun on February 24, so plan ahead!
Guarantee Payment Extension Agreements will be available within the guarantee step if you select a room.
If you haven’t yet selected a room or selected a room but have not yet made the guarantee payment, submit a release request and we will cancel your application.
If you’ve selected a room and made the guarantee payment (or completed the extension), your application-contract is legally binding. You will need to have your release request approved.
