Moving & Breaks
Housing and Residential Life creates a staggered move-in schedule each year to ensure students can get move-in and established before the start of classes. Apartment contracts start on August 15, and the residence hall opening date is scheduled each year based on Welcome Week and the first day of school.
Find key instructions and helpful tips for move-in including dates, what to bring (and what not to bring), bed configuration, tech setup, and more.
All residence halls and apartments are open November 25-28, and there is no extra charge for residents staying in their space.
Note: Dining halls are closed after lunch on Wednesday, November 24, and meal service resumes with brunch on November 26. Residents who stay should be aware that grocery stores and restaurants may have limited hours on November 24 and 25, so you will want to plan ahead.
Centennial and 17th Avenue are the only residence halls that remain open over Winter Break. All of the other residence halls close, but our on-campus apartments remain open.
Winter break housing for residence hall students is available for an additional fee of $35 per night, but students may be required to move to temporary spaces. Dining hall meal service ends with lunch on December 22, and the dining halls are not open over winter break.
Students who will not be staying in their rooms over Winter Break should empty their trash and clean their rooms before leaving. You should also make sure to pack everything you will need over break as it will be difficult or impossible for you to return until the halls reopen in January.
The residence halls reopen at 8 am on January 15 for students returning from winter break. Students living in Centennial, 17th Avenue, or an on-campus apartment may return whenever they wish as the buildings will not close over winter break. The Dining Halls open with brunch on January 15.
The residence halls and apartments remain open over Spring Break.
All residence hall and apartment buildings will remain open during spring break, but dining halls and other M Food Co. retail locations will be closed. We hope you have a safe and restorative spring break.
