Staying On Campus
Winter break housing (Dec 23-Jan 13, 2023) is available to residence hall students for $35 per night. Most residence halls close for winter break at 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2022; Centennial and 17th Avenue residence halls remain open for those who choose to remain on-campus. Residence hall students staying on campus during break may be required to move to temporary spaces in a different building. Request break housing at the link below.
Residents can request to stay in their room until 10:00 a.m. on Friday, December 23 for no additional charge, but must register in advance at the link below.
All apartments remain open during winter break, and apartment residents may stay at no extra charge.
Dining and Retail
The dining halls close for break after lunch on Thursday, December 22, 2022. Meal service resumes with brunch on Saturday, January 14, 2023. Dining hours are available on the M Food Co. website – dining.tc.umn.edu
On-campus retail will be closed from Friday, December 23, 2022-Monday, January 2, 2023.
Leaving For Winter Break
Take out your trash and clean your space before you go. When leaving for break, be sure to take everything you need; once the residence halls close you will not have access to anything left behind until the buildings reopen in January.
Returning From Winter Break
The residence halls reopen at 8 a.m. on January 14, 2023, for students returning from winter break.
Students living in buildings which remain open during winter break (Centennial, 17th Avenue, and on-campus apartments) may return whenever they wish. The dining halls open with brunch on Saturday, January 14, 2023.
Fall Break 2022
November 24-27, 2022
All residence halls and apartments remain open during the November break – there is no extra charge.
- The dining halls close for break after lunch on Wednesday, November 23, 2022. Meal service resumes with brunch on Saturday, November 26, 2022. Dining hours are available on the M Food Co. website – dining.tc.umn.edu
- Some grocery stores and restaurants are open limited hours November 23-24, 2022; please plan accordingly.
Fall Move-In 2022
Housing and Residential Life creates a staggered move-in schedule each year to ensure students can move in and get settled before the start of class.
- Apartment contracts for the current year began on August 15, 2022.
- The residence hall opening date is determined each year by the scheduling of Welcome Week and the first day of school.

Summer housing options are available for students. You choose the exact dates you stay and pay a nightly rate. Summer assignments are based on room availability and the date applications are received. Keeler Apartments contracts end on July 31, 2023, and residents will need to move out by 8 pm that day. Temporary housing is available to all newly admitted international students before the start of the fall semester. International Early Arrival Housing requests for domestic students are only approved for extenuating circumstances, and limited space is available.
