Excited about studying abroad? Interested in doing so with a community of fellow globally-minded first-year Gophers? Gopher Gateway house is a living learning community designed for first-year students who participate in a Gopher Gateway: Global Experiences for First-Year Students study abroad program. 

Gopher Gateway programs are designed specifically for incoming University of Minnesota Twin Cities (UMTC) first-year students. Students choose a Gopher Gateway learning abroad program to study abroad before fall semester begins, go abroad in late August and return in time to participate in Welcome Week. When fall semester begins, you’ll take class with your learning abroad cohort and professor. Start your UMTC journey with an international experience—make friends, earn credit, and get a head start on study abroad, your campus community, and college life.

Gopher Gateway House residents are adventurous Gophers. They are seeking a strong community of globally-minded friends and peers, getting ahead on their academic journey and navigating the University, and excited to expand their worldview and cultural awareness. Gopher Gateway House residents have access to support from the Learning Abroad Center (LAC) regarding reentry and planning their next study abroad experience, as well as multiple program leaders and course instructors supporting Gopher Gateway programs and courses. These staff will help support their academic success in their Gopher Gateway course, their transition to UMTC and support fun social activities throughout the year.

This community is open to residents participating in a Gopher Gateway learning abroad program.
