Afro-American Action Committee Scholars LLC

The MLK Beloved Community

About

A stylized black-and-white portrait of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr on a Pan-African red and green background.

We created the Afro-American Action Committee Scholars (AAACS) LLC to offer incoming first-year MLK students a meaningful space to live, learn, and grow alongside a community rooted in justice, equity, and transformation. This is more than a place to live—it’s a space to engage deeply with the legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his vision of the Beloved Community.

The AAACS LLC connects students with that powerful legacy. It invites them to ask hard questions about systems of power, their own identities, and how they can become changemakers in their communities. We explore the relevance of Dr. King's teachings today and work to build a community where care, accountability, and solidarity guide our everyday actions.

If you’re ready to step into that tradition and grow alongside others committed to justice, the AAACS LLC might be the space you’ve been looking for.

This community is open to first-year students advised through the MLK program within the College of Liberal Arts.

“Returning hate for hate multiplies hate, adding deeper darkness to a night already devoid of stars. Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that. Hate scars the soul and distorts the personality. Hate is just as injurious to the hater as it is to the hated… Love is the only force capable of transforming an enemy into a friend.”
