The Communication & Engagement Intern (CEI)  offers hands-on experience in marketing community engagement opportunities to residents and plays an integral role in supporting and managing the Groups Engagement model within their assigned community. CEI’s work directly supports the creation of socially-just and engaged communities that support a sense of belonging and social wellbeing for students who live on campus. This position provides support for students living in Bailey, Comstock, and Yudof.

We currently have an opening for Bailey Hall, Comstock Hall, and Yudof Hall. Applicants are not required to live on campus, and this position does not have a housing stipend. Applications are accepted until all positions are filled.

Responsibilities

The CEI must also be approachable, organized, willing to learn, and capable of working both independently and as part of a team. Specific responsibilities are related to all aspects of community development and providing administrative support to the building.  The CEI plays an integral role in promoting and managing the Groups Engagement model within their assigned community. 

Qualifications

Required

  • Creative, self-motivated, detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable with ambiguity
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Able to work effectively, positively, and in support of all populations including those outlined in the University of Minnesota’s Equal Opportunity Statement (race, color, creed, religion, national origin, gender, age, marital status, disability, public assistance status, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression)
  • Ability to attend weekly evening staff meetings (Tuesdays at 7:00-9:00 p.m.) and training sessions as needed. 
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5
  • Successfully pass a background check

Preferred

  • Demonstrated interest in or experience with marketing/design
  • Experience in a leadership role
  • Experience as Community Advisor (CA)
  • Minimum of 2 semesters of residential community living experience that includes community development or leadership experience (i.e. Residence Hall Group leader or member, CA, HRL Office Assistant [OA], etc.)
