The Housing & Residential Life Marketing and Communications team is looking for a versatile Graphic/Multimedia Design intern with strong interpersonal, listening, and communication skills who will help us to expand our brand and build our community engagement.

This is a great opportunity to build up your portfolio and gain valuable professional experience as part of a fun and supportive group! Get involved in team meetings, collaborate with other interns, generate new ideas for social media, and develop new skills while shaping big picture strategies, structure, and guidelines with data-driven goals.

The Graphic/Multimedia Design Intern reports to the Senior Visual Marketing & Communications Strategist.

Responsibilities

50% - Plan and produce innovative high-quality original video, photo, and graphic content for publication in electronic and print media covering a variety of topics including, but not limited to: 

  • Marketing for HRL spaces, staff, events, and initiatives
  • In-hall programs, events, and communications in collaboration with Residence Director staff
  • Publication templates and guidelines for use by Community Advisors and hall groups
  • Materials and support for Conference & Event Services (our team that works with summer groups on campus)


25% - Assist in maintenance of social media channels and the creation of content with duties such as:

  • Posting and scheduling on social media channels
  • Writing and drafting video scripts
  • Filming and acting as on camera talent


15% - Serve as a Brand Ambassador for Housing & Residential Life by staffing tabling events and cross-training with other HRL interns

5% - Conduct market research, data collection, and analytics, including campus and community partnership opportunities

5% - General office duties such as copying, filing, delivery of materials, data entry, archiving, and other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Required

  • Must be a registered undergraduate student at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities.
  • Strong creative skillset - must provide a design portfolio or work samples
  • Familiarity with social media platforms such as Instagram, TikTok, and/or Facebook
  • General understanding of Adobe Creative Suite software (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, etc.)
  • Attention to detail, especially to accurate use of department brand standards
  • Ability to maintain a regular schedule of 10-20 hours/week during the academic year
  • Reliability to meet deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously

Preferred

  • Seeking a degree in art, design, video, web development, marketing, or related field
  • Both work-study and non work-study students will be considered, but work study is preferred
  • Have lived or worked in University housing
  • Interest in being on camera
  • Experience designing for print, digital, mobile, or web applications
  • Experience using a social media management system (hootsuite, buffer, etc.)
  • Video and/or motion graphics experience
  • Photography and/or photo editing experience
  • Writing experience
  • Availability to work up to 40 hours/week during semester breaks (Spring, Summer, Winter)
