Summer Housing

Information listed on this page is for 2026 Summer Housing. Details are subject to change. Non-UMN students seeking summer housing should review our Summer Intern or Guest Housing webpages, and incoming international students should review our Early Arrival Housing information.

Summer housing options are available for current University of Minnesota students. This is a great option for students taking classes, working, or doing internships over the summer. You can choose the exact dates you stay and pay a nightly rate. Summer assignments are based on room availability and the date applications are received.

Options for Summer housing include:

Residence Hall (17th Avenue Residence Hall):

For stays anytime between May 15, 2026 to August 15, 2026
One-week minimum stay required
Students staying in 17th Avenue Residence Hall between June 8, 2026 and August 14, 2026 will be required to pay for a meal plan (see details below)
Must be registered for one or more summer classes

Apartments (Keeler):

For stays anytime between June 1, 2026 and July 31, 2026*
Two-week minimum stay is required
Meal plan is optional
Must be registered for one or more summer classes (limited exceptions can be granted by contacting us)

Apply for Summer Housing

Please review all information and requirements listed in the Details section below before applying for summer housing. The priority deadline for summer housing applications for students living in 17th Avenue Residence Hall is March 15, 2026. Students who apply for summer housing after the priority deadline will be assigned where there is space available.

You will need a UMN internet ID/password to apply and a U Card to check in.

Eligibility

Contracts and Billing

Housing Contract

All students in summer housing without a fall semester University of Minnesota housing contract must vacate their summer space by the date in their summer housing contract.

Students living in apartments should be aware that they may be asked to move to a different unit due to occupancy.

Billing

Summer housing charges will be posted to student accounts in the last week of May, including a $50 Housing Application Fee. If you previously paid a $50 Housing Application Fee for the 2025-2026 academic year, you will not be charged for your completed summer application.

Cancellations and refunds

Date changes and cancellations can be made up to five days prior to a student's chosen check-in date. There are no refunds for early move-out.

Meal Plans

Residence Halls

A meal plan is required for residents assigned to 17th Avenue Residence Hall between June 8 and August 14, 2026. No Dining Dollars are required. The rate for 2026 is $29.25 per day for all-day access within summer dining hours.

Once you have activated your meal plan, it will be active through the end of your contract. Plans cannot be activated for specific dates. You will be automatically enrolled, so do not purchase a meal plan through the M Food Co. website. Pioneer Dining also accepts Dining Dollars, cash, debit/credit cards, and Gopher GOLD.

On-campus Apartments

Meal plans are optional for residents in Keeler, Radius, or Yudof. If you want to purchase an optional meal plan, go to the M Food Co. website for more information.

Please note: The link is only for purchasing an optional meal plan for this summer. More information will be shared in the future about how students living in our on-campus apartments during the academic year can select a meal plan.

Accommodations

Parking

Students will need to arrange their own parking as needed. Contact Parking and Transportation Services for information.

International Students

Temporary housing is available to all newly admitted international students before the start of the fall semester. Requests from domestic students are only approved for extenuating circumstances, and limited space is available. There is not a temporary housing option available before the start of the spring semester.
