Dates & Appointments
Housing & Residential Life arranges a staggered move-in schedule each year for residents moving into our residence halls and apartments. This is done to minimize traffic (both on the roads and in our buildings), and it ensures new students arrive in time for Welcome Week.
Are you requesting an assignment change? Your move-in reservation will automatically be deleted if you get a new room/building assignment. You must make a new move-in reservation even if your new assignment is in the same building.
Dates & Reservations
Moving Into a Residence Hall
All residents are required to schedule a move-in time so we can support an efficient and organized process. Please only arrive during your move-in appointment, and confirm your schedule before making an appointment.
Please note: Some programs require students to move in earlier (for example Marching Band, MCAE Kickoff, and certain student jobs). Limited unassisted appointments will be available on August 28 (fees may apply; go to the Early Arrivals & Move-in tab to learn more).
Early Move-in: August 28
Want to have fewer people around when you move in? Or are your family/helpers unavailable to assist you on August 29 or 30? We have limited early move-in appointments available during the afternoon and early evening on Sunday, August 28. Go to the "Early Arrivals & Move-ins" tab for more information.
First-Year Students: August 29 and 30
All first-year students can move in on August 29 or 30. Appointments are available every half hour.
Due to the large number of students arriving, we will have volunteers at the residence halls to help with move-in. Please follow their directions as this will move quickly (our goal is for you to arrive, check in, and unload your vehicle in 10-15 minutes). You or your helper should then move your car to designated parking before returning to continue unpacking. Lunch and dinner will be available for meal plan holders in the dining halls.
Students can move in after August 29 or 30 if those dates do not work, but volunteer assistance will not be available. You can arrive any time between 8 am and 8 pm on the day you select when reserving your move-in appointment.
Second-Year & Transfer Students Attending Welcome Week: August 31
This date is reserved for sophomores and transfer students participating in Welcome Week activities. You can arrive any time between 8 am and 8 pm on the day you select when reserving your move-in appointment.
There will be moving carts available for check out from your building Information Desk on these dates, but no volunteer assistance will be available.
All other students (returning residents and transfer students not attending Welcome Week): September 3-5
All other residents can arrive anytime between September 3 and 5. You can arrive any time between 8 am and 8 pm on the day you select when reserving your move-in appointment.
There will be moving carts available for check out from your building Information Desk on these dates, but no volunteer assistance will be available.
Moving Into an On-Campus Apartment
Students assigned to on-campus apartments (Keeler, Radius, Wilkins, Yudof) are welcome to reserve an appointment to move in anytime on or after August 15 at 8 am.
We will not have volunteers available at the apartments, so you will need to move in without assistance. We will have carts available to check out.
If you will arrive on August 15 (the start of your apartment contract)
You will select a 30-minute appointment. These 30 minutes are for the time you will need to arrive, check-in, and unload your belongings so they can be brought to your apartment. You or one of your helpers should then move your vehicle to the nearby parking.
If you want to arrive between August 16 and September 5
You will select a day when making your move-in appointment. You can arrive anytime between 8 am and 8 pm on the day you select.
Please note: We strongly recommend apartment residents move in before August 29 to avoid the road congestion that happens when students move into the residence halls.
Early Arrival Housing
International Students
Incoming international students can make a reservation in International Early Arrival Housing. This option is available to all new international students including those who will live off campus during the school year.
Depending on when you arrive, new international students may need to stay in a temporary location before moving to their fall housing assignment. August 18 is the last day to make a reservation in International Early Arrival Housing.
International Early Arrival Housing
Domestic Students
Requests for early arrival housing from domestic students are only approved for extenuating circumstances, and limited space is available. You will be placed in a temporary housing assignment, and requests should be submitted by August 18.
If you cancel your housing contract, you will no longer be eligible for early arrival housing, and your request will also be canceled.

If you need to change your appointment
We urge you to confirm your availability to move in during your appointment before making your reservation. This will reduce the possibility of errors or confusion.
If you do need to change your reservation, you can use the link that will be provided in your confirmation email to log back into the reservation system and select another time.
If you get an Assignment Change (A new room/building assignment)
Your move-in reservation will automatically be deleted if you get a new room/building assignment. You must make a new reservation even if your new assignment is in the same building.
